If ICMP Ping is selected as the monitor type by using the keyboard alt-down arrow, then tab to select and move to next field, this is allowed, and is possible to complete configuration without specifying ICMP Ping setup.

This produces a greyed out node, which refuses to let you back into the properties to edit - Node [] does not exist in the configuration database.
