Hi

I'm based in the uk and developing a 2-way sms application.

Consider the following:

1. Server software would be installed on a rack mounted window server
2. No GSM phone or modem can be connected to this server

Can the software be used to send and receive SMS messages via another route that does not require a phone to be attached to a server?

If so, can it support the use of SMS short codes - looking to charge 25p per message sent from user to shortcode, and for a response message to be included in that price.

The reason I am looking to do this myself is the exhorbitant revenues taken by the gateway companies to provide a short code service. That, and I think this technology is cool.

Can someone explain a scenario using the Active software that meets the above criteria?

Regards

Norman

Hello Norman,

Thank you for your post.

If you cannot have a GSM modem at the server, you have to use the SMPP protocol. In order to also receive SMS messages via SMPP you have to register a virtual phone number with this provider where the messages can be send to.

For more info about this, please see the following document:

Thanks for that.

Spoke with the hosting company and can't add a GSM Modem as it's just a rack mount blade, and don't fancy putting my own server into a farm for ridiculous costs with no hardware support.

So, the SMPP appears to be the option.

Does anyone have any providers they can recommend for value for money 2-way SMS provision in the UK? Or outwith the UK if cost effective?
